Custom Cake Dress for Emily
Emily Blanch - Senior Producer at Rebel Playground, came to Dizzielizness with a vision for a stunning cake dress, providing key details like the budget, colour scheme, and party theme, along with images to guide our design.
After reviewing the brief, we worked our magic on Photoshop to create a design that she loved.
A meeting at her office allowed us to present fabric samples, embellishments, and even a pair of ruby slippers we’d previously embellished, which sparked excitement and enthusiasm about the textures and colors. The pink velvet we sourced from Greenies was a standout favourite.
With a solid concept in place, The team and I began building the cake’s structure while we waited for the dancer's measurements. We used a sturdy core flute sheet from a local hardware store to craft the horizontal layers, and then we skilfully assembled them using webbing tape and thick thread. The bodice, from a free pattern, was then customized to complete the look.
Throughout the project, I handled sourcing, cutting, and embellishing the shoes, bows, bodice, and roses. Constant communication with Emily ensured she was kept in the loop, and a fitting with the dancer went smoothly, with the costume fitting beautifully.
Once completed, we created a short video to guide the team on how to put the costume on and remove it correctly.
